West Texas Rural Telephone Cooperative was established in 1950 to provide telephone service to the rural areas in Deaf Smith, Parmer and portions of Castro and Bailey counties after the large commercial telephone companies declined to offer service to the rural areas because of the capital investment required to serve such sparsely populated rural communities, farms and ranches.
As discussed during our annual meetings, in previous newsletter articles, and with many of you individually, West Texas Rural Telephone Cooperative has been installing fiber-optic-cable to enable us to serve our members with broadband internet.

Like most telephone cooperatives in the country, WTRT traces its roots to the passage of the Rural Telephone Act in 1949.
From high speed internet, unlimited telephone service and long distance service, WTRT provides its members with the same cutting edge technologies found in the metropolitan areas, backed by a 60+ year tradition of providing quality communications services and exceptional customer service. We were the first to bring communications services to the residents of Deaf Smith, Parmer, and portions of Castro and Bailey counties.
The Lifeline Service program offers a discount on your monthly telephone/broadband bill. Assistance in the way of the Lifeline Program is available to qualifying low-income consumers to make telephone/broadband service affordable. Lifeline consumers will be required to make certain certifications upon signing up for Lifeline service and renewals are required.
